PLEASE NOTE

 

This event is not just a celebration of the ancient O'Meachair clan, but also

of the Barony of Ikerrin and the beautiful countryside that we all call home.

Our aim

 

We are a voluntary not-for-profit group who are committed to commemorating our heritage, to sharing and developing our knowledge of our ancestors and of the lands on which they lived and to create a lasting legacy to ensure this inheritance is sustained

What?

All are welcome to join a two day celebration of the Mahers/Meaghers/O'Meachairs and the unique landscape in the ancient Barony of Ikerrin

 

Events will include:

  • an Art Exhibition with the theme of the Devil's Bit;

  • an academic conference on the Barony and the O'Meachairs in the late medieval period;

  • a genealogy workshop to help discover O'Meachair ancestry and

  • a medieval themed social event that will include music, food, drama and pagentry.

 

Why?

Following on from a successful pilot event in 2013 and due to popular demand, it was decided to organise the first ever  commemoration of this beautiful area and this unique ancient Gaelic clan.

 

It is hoped that this event will encourage all of those who are who connected to this unique part of Ireland, to come and take part in the weekend's festivities and to rediscover their roots, both geographically and genealogically.  

 

Where?

The two days of events will be held in a number of significant sites throughout the ancient Barony of Ikerrin, in the North of County Tipperary, Ireland.

 

Locations include, Killea, Damer House, Roscrea and the chief seat of the O'Meachairs in Clonakenny.

 

When?

Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd of August, 2014.

 

 

How Much?

As we are a voluntary, not-for-profit group, there will be a charge of Eur10 for the Academic Conference and the Genealogy Workshop held on Saturday the 23rd August. .

 

Also, in order to off-set some of the considerable expenses associated, we would ask for your support for a number of fundarising opportunities planned during the event.
